국제방폭인증으로 1997년 국제전기기술위원회(International Electrotechnical Commission Technical Committee)에서 제정한 방폭, 전기기기에 대한 국제적인 상호인증제도로 방폭, 전기기기가 국제규격(IEC)의 요구사항에 적합함을 입증하는 국제적인 인증제도이다. 폭발위험 분위기에서 사용되는 방폭, 전기기기의 안전수준을 유지하고 국가 간의 중복인증을 피하고자 회원국 간 하나의 기준, 하나의 시험, 하나의 인증서, 하나의 마크가 전 세계적으로 통용되게 함으로써 무역 기술 장벽을 없애기 위한 제도이다.
